Weird electric buzzing sound that drains the battery M54 BMW E60

Tire treads hum against the asphalt, wind whistles as it passes around outboard mirrors, plastic bits and pieces in the dashboard generate little squeaks as they rub together and so forth. You should not ignore certain thumping, banging, clicking and squealing sounds. These sounds often rear their heads or intensify whenever the driver takes specific actions such as stepping on the accelerator, depressing the brake pedal or turning the steering wheel sharply.Nothing feels better than feeling the cold air blowing in your car on a hot day, practically a necessity, it is one of the most important parts of any car: a working air conditioner.

Should you need the cold air and be greeted with nothing or warm air, it can be quite the cause for concern as you hope to figure out why. Usually your air conditioner will begin to show signs that it is beginning to experience an issue, typically through weird and unusual sounds.

Should you notice your air conditioner making any weird and uncommon sounds, it is important to know what they may signify and the best way to treat it before any damages can be caused. Weird sounds coming from the air conditioner can be one of the most concerning things to a driver, especially during the summer when the air conditioner is just about the most important piece of a car. Whether it is the sign that something is failing or in need of maintenance, or simply a normal occurrence that you do not need to worry about, knowing what sounds to listen for from your air conditioner can help you find and properly diagnose an issue before it becomes critical, which will help keep all of your car in proper working order and free of issue.

Rather than using any belt dressing for diagnosis of an issue, spray the belt down with a spray bottle of water and if the noise stops, have your vehicle looked at for further inspection. If your serpentine belt is old you may want to just replace it anyways even if there are no weird sounds or signs of wear and tear.

This is usually the sign of an overcharged system, which is only usually an issue when too much Freon is added during an air conditioner service. An overcharged air conditioner will not properly cool and needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.

The buzzing is caused by the liquid refrigerant entering the compressor intake port and is a great signifier that there is too much Freon. Replacing the entire air conditioner compressor is expensive and much harder than it initially may look so correcting the issue fast will save you plenty of time and money. Knocking or Clicking Sound- While not as common an issue as the other sounds, either a constant knocking or clicking sound is the result of loose mounting bolts that are meant to secure various air conditioning components.

When the engine is running you can find the trouble area by simply standing back and looking, as you will be able to see any loose components shaking and moving around. The easiest fix when it comes to sounds your air conditioner could make, you simply have to tighten bolts and add thread-locking compound to solve the problem.

A hissing noise after turning the car off is actually caused by equalizing pressurethis is made by the Freon moving from the high-pressure side of the compressor down into the lower pressure side and is a completely normal occurrence and sound. Constant Rattling Sound- There are a few potential culprits for an air conditioner that rattles when you turn it on, if you think it may be any of them it is important that you find the cause right away and have it taken care of before further damages can be spread.

An air conditioner compressor beginning to fail, a compressor pulley or serpentine belt that is beginning to wear out or the compressor clutch can cause a rattling noise. The compressor clutch is a high-wear item that will need to be inspected and replaced fairly often, it will create a rattle sometimes if it is wearing out though some vehicles require the clutch and compressor be replaced at the same time. Wrap Up Weird sounds coming from the air conditioner can be one of the most concerning things to a driver, especially during the summer when the air conditioner is just about the most important piece of a car.

This seems to be a common problem with many cars. In this article, I present some of the possible causes of whining noise while accelerating. Is a whining noise while accelerating, disturbing your peaceful meditative state at the driving wheel?

Whining noise while accelerating seems to be one of the most commonly faced and most discussed problems on automobile forums worldwide. Some report a whining noise from engine, some report it to come from the front right or front left and some are plain clueless about it.

Nitrox partial pressure

What makes the whining even more mysterious is the fact that it occurs only at high engine RPM or while accelerating. Would you like to write for us? Well, we're looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we'll talk Friction and vibration are two factors that come into play at high car speeds. With a plethora of operational moving parts, figuring out the culprit contributing to the car making whining noise is difficult even for experienced car drivers.

One way out is to check for all likely possibilities, one by one. To figure out why a car makes whining noise while accelerating, make a list of all possible causes and eliminate through investigation, till you can narrow down to a single one. In the next section, I provide a list of possible causes of whining noise during acceleration, that I discovered from various automobile forums and experienced auto mechanics.

Possible Causes I list out the various reasons why your car can become a whiner at high acceleration speeds. One clue is to figure out what parts of a car come into play at high acceleration speeds. Here are some hints. Transmission Problems One of the prime reasons for whining noise may be friction caused in the car transmission mechanism.

The reasons for this might be worn out gears and low transmission fluid levels. You could check whether the problem is in the transmission in the following way. Accelerate the car to speeds at which the whining noise is the loudest, switch to neutral gear and kill the engine.

If the noise still persists, then the problem lies somewhere in the drivetrain or transmission. If the noise goes away, then it may be the engine or clutch assembly that is causing the problem.

A thorough transmission checkup might solve the mystery. Differential Gear Problems Wearing out of gears in the rear differential or front, may be causing whining sounds. This sound may result from the friction in the ring and pinion arrangement. Get the rear differential noise checked and get it fixed as soon as possible. Power Steering Problems If the whining noise while accelerating is loudest while taking a turn, the problem may lie in the power steering assembly.

Getting the belt tightened and the whole assembly realigned, might solve your problem. Engine Problems There are certain engine problems that may create a whining or high pitched noise.

Getting the whole engine assembly checked might narrow down the problem to some loose component or misalignment. It may also be due to a lack of lubrication causing friction in some engine parts. Normal Resonance I read that certain whining noises might be created purely from the vibrational resonance of specific components at high speeds. For example, one of the reported reasons for whining noise in a BMW, was attributed to the noise created by the planetary gears.Well, on an E that simple answer is not correct.

I've never encountered any of my engine cooling system componets running after shut down. However, I have a 97 i that has this dinky little fan that sucks air through a temp sensor that tells the car what temperature the interior is currently at. This small fan runs for a few minutes after you shut off the car. Though this may tell you what that little electric whirring sound is that your BMW is making after you shut down the car, I don't have the explanation of why they do this.

Seems like a waste of battery to me. An acceleration noise from a BMW e46 engine could be caused by several things. Check the belts and pulleys to start with. Look over the engine for any spots that look like they are rubbing. Check for broken motor or transmission mounts. I've had people say the engine was about to throw a piston, i need a new engine, etc what could it be and is it possible to fix? BMW manufactures both a racing and street version of the car.

The street version has been modified to meet emission and noise standards. I was on my research for replacing the timing chain for my own X3 Bottom line, it needs not be serviced unless it's making a noise. It could last the life of the engine. Good Luck! Asked By Curt Eichmann.

You may hear the buzzing only when playing music really loudly or when the music has a lot of bass. You may hear the buzzing at all times. Determining the source of the problem is really important though. The problem can be with your speakers, forcing you to replace them, or the problem could be with other components in the car stereo system. The first step to determine whether the problem is with the speakers is to expose them. Most speakers come with a metal sheath covering. Removing this covering will expose the speaker cones for inspection.

When the cones are exposed, you can check each of them by running your fingers along them. Even the smallest of rips and tears can cause a buzzing sound in a car stereo speaker as speaker cones are really delicate.

Getting a high pitched ringing / buzzing noise after turning off the engine.

If you find that there are absolutely no rips and tears along your speaker cones, put back all the coverings of the speakers. You will have to look for the problem in another car stereo component. The problem could be with the sound source the head unit.

Trying out the speakers on a different audio source can help you determine the problem. Before you start checking the audio source by running the speakers on a different head unit, you have to disconnect the current head unit completely. First, disconnect all the cables that are connecting your speakers to the head unit.

These can either be RCA cables or red and black cables that go into those black and red pull tabs at the back of speakers. Disconnecting them is a very easy job. Once you have disconnected all the cables, get another stereo unit for testing. You can ask a friend to borrow their stereo unit for this process.

Once you have a borrowed stereo unit, plug all the previously disconnected cables into this stereo unit. This is the only way you will be able to determine whether the buzzing problem of your car stereo speaker is actually a problem in the speakers or the head unit.By michaelsmithApril 13, in Hardware.

I tried performing a Google search but it wouldn't give me any useful answers so I was wondering if the piriform community knew what it was and how to fix it. You say even when it's switched off, does this mean it even makes a noise when the plug is removed from the electric wall socket? When I take out the plug the buzzing stops and when I put it back in it begins once again.

It doesn't come out of the system speakers.

I hold my ear up against the computer and I hear a buzzing sound. The noise is sometimes louder some times and quieter other times. Its a normal desktop computer. The warrenty expired a couple of days ago. This would isolate it down to the PSU if it still makes the noise and would probably have to be replaced. Repeat the process with each device adding them back one at a time until you hear the noise.

I love nikki 's suggestion. I don't think i'll need a completely buy a new PSU. The computer works fine, its just that the sound is very annoying if I listen closely, but thanks for the suggestions. If you run those easy checks you could find out for sure. On top of that without running these checks, there's no way to be sure that it is, indeed, the PSU.

EDIT: when was the last time you cleaned the inside of the computer, dust bunnies can cause buzzing and damage hardware. Are there smokers of any sort in the house? As this can reallllllllllllly mess up computers and be signified by a buzzing from the case while plugged in. Although it may have actually expired, a lot a retailers will still honour it, if it has expired by a very short time.

I assume it came with a 1 year manufacture's warranty, did you get an extended warranty per chance?

I once heard from a guy in that area that there is some sort of non-advertised law? A buzzing sound could be a bad transformer or possibly capacitor in the PSU. It might also be a bad earth ground at the power outlet. Either way it could be a sign of a pending failure.

I have the same issue and it fried my dvd drive. And at times when i shut down my pc, all the hardware shuts down except the fans and motherboard and also the light around the power button is solid on; and after this the pc wont power on unless i disconnect the power supply from the wall and re plugin Any help would be appreciated.

When it does this if you are somewhere you can stop and look pop the hood and with the car still running remove the oil filler cap.

If the crankcase vent system is clogged it will make it do what you have described. Removing the oil cap will make the noise stop immediately. It will feel like there is a large amount of vacuum when you remove the cap. If you do this simple test and it causes the noise to stop something is clogging your crankcase vent system. Oh, one more thing to check - the secondary air pump - it is at the front of the motor on the passenger side.

There will be a couple of medium sized hoses coming off it, but it is a plastic part about the size of a coffee pot. If a hose is loose on this or it has gone bad you will definitely hear a whistle sound.

I've had my BMW shop run all kinds of diagnostic testing and they can't locate the source. One problem of locating trouble is that the noise stops when the brakes are applied or when the car is at a standstill.

The car runs just fine, but this noise is embassaring and annoying. Any thoughts? Thank you. Could well be the belt tension pulley, also check the alternator bearing. A simple way to check this is to take a long!!!
